"SINCE county supervisors passed a social host law in an attempt to crack down on teen drinking parties, 23 adult hosts have received $750 fines. The county law has been on the books for 18 months, but it is still surprising that some parents haven't gotten the message.

We commend county officials for enforcing the law and not deciding a symbolic statement was enough. That apparently is the approach in most Marin cities and towns, which all have passed social host ordinances that hold parents and other adults accountable for hosting or just condoning big teen drinking parties. I just read that from the twitter link. I think it's actually a pretty good idea. I thought it was funny that people in the comments were like "Kids die. Get over it." Yes, kids will drink. Yes, kids will die. But does that mean we shouldn't try to prevent it? Or at least get parents to take some responsibility rather than condoning it? The only good point I saw from someone was that cops breaking up parties causes people to drive drunk. They've definitely gotta come up with something better. Confiscate the alcohol and make kids stay at the party unless they've got a DD or something.
